“Crypto’s power to create wealth for minorities is unprecedented. For the first time in history, we are all truly equal, with the same opportunities and potential. While there are those who resist that change, there are more who stand together in unison.”
Itay Bengal, Decentral Publishing
Although my focus is not limited to a specific group — other than everyday people — Bengal’s comment echoes my feeling about the cryptoverse. Because of the vast opportunities in the cryptoverse, financial freedom is available to everyday people — people without deep investment pockets.
And, yes, you could lose everything (and probably will) if you are not an informed investor. However, in traditional financial institutions, you can gain far more in a day than in 10 years.
“Blockchain and cryptocurrency have the potential to promote racial equality and minority inclusion by providing access to financial services and opportunities that may have been previously limited or unavailable.”
The cryptoverse is no respecter of financial wherewithal. You can invest a few dollars or a few million. Of course, the smaller the investment, the smaller the return, but a well-thought-out plan can turn a little into a lot in a few years. You can try that in a traditional investment platform and see how far that gets you.
The beauty of the cryptoverse extends beyond investments, as it opens the doors for creative expansion in business ventures like NFTs, Gaming, and the Metaverse. Small amounts of investment capital can be generated through funding sources like Go fund me, allowing everyday people the opportunity to realize a dream.
Meet Kgothatso Ngako
Kgothatso started a company called Machankura with a simple idea, get as many African people into Bitcoin as possible.
“I started Machankura to make bitcoin more accessible in communities, where not everyone has an Internet-connected device. Anyone who’s interested in using bitcoin and living on bitcoin should be able to do so easily.”
Despite little to no internet, low-tech cell phones (not smartphones), and a crypto-hungry population, Ngako has found a way to bring the people of Africa into the cryptoverse.
A South African computer science researcher and developer turned entrepreneur, Ngako uses old-style cellphones (with texting capability) to connect to Machankura, his crypto wallet, enabling them to buy, sell, and even barter Bitcoin.
Ngako utilizes Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, which allows such transactions to happen easily and quickly. Machankura (South African for money) is currently available in eight African countries.
This innovative approach is opening up Bitcoin to difficult-to-reach regions of the world. It is an example of the creative possibilities found only in the cryptoverse.
